Failover

How many servers can I protect with Cloud Data Server Failover?

You can protect as many servers as you like with this service – there is a charge for each CDP agent to be installed on your servers. If you have a larger infrastructure with a SAN or existing VMware hosts you should consider Cloud Data’s Infrastructure Failover service which allows co-ordination of backup and failover across your entire infrastructure rather than on a server by server basis.

Do you test the failover service?

Yes. We insist on a failover test twice a year to prove to you and us that the service is working as expected. The cost of failing over is included in the service fee.

Do I have to pay extra when running failover servers?

We include 1 failover event of up to 5 days duration with the service. Additional days or events are chargeable at our standard hosting rates for an equivalent virtual machine running on our VMware ESX platform.

What happens to the failover servers once I have finished using them?

Because the failover servers are virtual machines, they are simply deleted once you inform us you are no longer using them. They can be quickly recreated in the event you need to failover again.

Backup

How do I restore data from the CDP backups?

Files can be restored by accessing the CDP agent on the server to which you wish to restore the files. Select the file or files you wish to restore and they will be automatically downloaded over your Internet connection.

How do I roll back to a Snapshot?

Snapshot data can be accessed via the CDP agent on the machine that you wish to roll back – simply select the point in time to which you wish to roll back and the agent will download the data.

Are there any bandwidth implications or limitations?

The FalconStor CDP software uses sophisticated compression and encryption techniques to keep bandwidth requirements to a minimum. You will need a permanent internet connection at broadband speeds or higher. Ability to restore large files will be dependent on the download speed of your connection – the faster the better.

What application agents are available?

Snapshot agents are available for the following applications:

  • Microsoft® SQL Server

  • Oracle®
  • Sybase®
  • IBM® DB2
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • IBM Lotus Notes
