General

How do I restore data from the CDP backups?

Files can be restored by accessing the interface on the CDP appliance. Select the file or files you wish to restore and they will be automatically downloaded over your Internet connection.

How do I roll back to a Snapshot?

Snapshot data can be accessed via the CDP appliance - select the point in time to which you wish to roll back and the appliance will download the data and create a mountable snapshot image.

Are there any bandwidth implications or limitations?

The FalconStor CDP appliance uses sophisticated compression and encryption techniques to keep bandwidth requirements to a minimum. You will need a permanent leased line internet connection preferably at Ethernet speed. Ability to restore large files will be dependent on the download speed of your connection – the faster the better.

What application agents are available?

Snapshot agents are available for the following applications:

• Microsoft® SQL Server
• Oracle®
• Sybase®
• IBM® DB2
• Microsoft Exchange
• IBM Lotus Notes

Failover

How are my servers brought back online in the event of a failure?

Failover is a manual process which must be initiated by you by raising a support ticket via our support portal. We can monitor your servers and contact you proactively in the event of an outage however we will not initiate a failover event without a specific instruction from you. On receipt of the instruction we run VMware vConverter on the images of the servers you wish to failover (which are stored on our SAN) and we then boot the newly created virtual machines onto VMware ESX platform.

How do I access the failover servers on Cloud Data’s VMware ESX platform?

There are a number of ways that you can access the failover servers – how you choose to do this really depends on the experience you want to offer to the end users of the services running on the servers. Possible means of access include:

Do you test the failover service?

Yes. We insist on a failover test twice a year to prove to you and us that the service is working as expected. The cost of failing over is included in the service fee.

Do I have to pay extra when running failover servers?

We include 1 failover event of up to 5 days duration with the service. Additional days or events are chargeable at our standard hosting rates for an equivalent virtual machine running on our VMware ESX platform.

What happens to the failover servers once I have finished using them?

Because the failover servers are virtual machines, they are simply deleted once you inform us you are no longer using them. They can be quickly recreated in the event you need to failover again.
